I have a 280 mountain rilfe. I shot a cow elk last year and a doe at 427 yds on another hunt. I love the round just kindy hard to find ammo at some places.

How do you like this? A local guy has an Abolt Medallion in .280 for sale only without the BOSS, for a decent price and I've been considering it. I like the idea of a .280, but at the same time I'm not sure if I really want one or not.

The 280 is pretty much a 270 with a slightly larger bullet diameter and a little more punch. So as much as I like the 270 the 280 will do everything the 270 but just a tad better.

I love the 280! Out of all of my rifles, my 280 is my favorite. It is my number 1 do it all rifle. Mine is a Ruger 77 MKII stainless with a Bell & Carlson stock, you cant hurt that thing. And it is a hell of a good shooter.

I have a Remington 700 Classic 280 Rem. It's my favorite rifle and favorite cartridge. I can get any of the Remington Core-Lokt ammo locally for it. I order most of my ammo online so I can get anything I want usually cheaper so getting ammo isn't an issue for me. I shot a deer at around 75 yards with it, it was a bang flop. IIRC the 280 Rem's shoulder was moved about .050" forward of both the 270 Win. and 30-06 Spr. So there is a tad more case capacity for the hand loaders to work with. It was done so a 280 Rem. round couldn't be forced into a 270 Win. by someone that wasn't paying attention. Their way of thinking was if the case was the same length it'd be easier to chamber a 280 Rem. (.284 cal.) in a 270 Win. (.277 cal.). being only .007" difference of semi soft bullets. With a longer shoulder the bolt couldn't be closed. The 280 Rem. is a great cartridge!

NYH!

I stuck a 4-12-12 Nikon Monarch on it and went to the range today. At 100yds with 140gr corlokts i put two threw the same hole and another touching em im not sure what itmeasured but i kno under an inch. I got it 2inches high at 100yds is that a good sight in? The longest shot i have/ever will is 350yds so where should it hit?also will the140gr corlokt be enough for the small blackbear in tn or the wild hog in texas? Idont wana find out i dont have the right bullet for the job at a criticle time i kno the 140 will work on deer but bear or hog i dono.thanks

Any good deer round will be good on hogs. anything from 30-30 on up I'd say. Can't speak for Bear. Never had the pleasure myself.
