Default Which .243??

Looking for a .243win built on a short action.

Must be stainless action/barrel.

Prefer synthetic stock, but not a deal breaker.

Must have 24" barrel

They're offering the 700 cdl-sf in a 6mm Rem., maybe .243 next year? hard to say?

If you could settle for a 22" barrel i'd say the winchester model 70 extreme weather.it's got the bell & carlson stock , fluted barrel , nice gun. I've got the remington sps in 243 it's not a bad gun.......but I like the winchester better.

Proud owner of a M700 SPS DM (blued).

If the stainless model came with a detachable magazine I would have brought that !

Turned out to be a shooter..............under 1" MOA at 100 yards using remanufactured bulk ammo (HSM 75 gr. V-max).

Hand lapped barrel, basic trigger job & pachmayr delecerator pad - on a brench, off sand bags.

Burris signature select 4X-16X 44MM illuminated ballistic plex reticle

Good to go..............plenty of dead dogs hate this set-up !

Of the ones you listed I would pick up the new Vanguard. However, I will also second the opinion for the Winchester 70 Extreme Weather. I just recently picked one up in 270 Winchester. Mounted a Zeiss Conquest in DNZ mounts and headed out to the range last week.

Zeroed the rifle and then decided to try some Hornady Superformance 140 grain SST's. The rifle did not seem to care for these as evidenced by the 2 shots in the left quadrant of the target. I then took 3, 130 grain Federal Powershoks and shot the next group. I am very excited with this rifle and think it will get even better once it is broken in.

I would also take a look at the Tikka T-3 Stainless Lite...have one in 270 WSM and it's a shooter. It produced SUB-MOA groups from day one with both factory rounds and hand loads. Of the ones you list though, I'd go with the Vanguard, my daughter and niece both hunt with Vanguards in 243 and they are both shooters.

My choice would also be one of the Savages.

Are they 24" barrels?

Aren't their actions longer than standard? ie the short and the long are both longer than normal?
