Default federal gamekings

I shoot a 30.06 and picked up 165 grain sierra gameking boattails by Federal for 10 bucks a box. Has anyone used these before? I normally shoot core lokts for deer but wonder what tipe of performance I could expect from these bullets on deer and mabey elk?

Sierra GameKings are in my opinion a much better bullet than the Remington CoreLokt. Better weight retention and less breakup. I haven' t used Federal ammo but have been loading GameKings for a few years now in several calibers. I really like them on deer. I can' t offer an opinion on their performance on elk.

These would be the Sierra boattails with cannelures... I have used them and they work great on deer...I have never used them on Elk and would probably go to a 180 grain GAmeking or Prohunter on an Elk .....Its a good load as it comes from Federal and shot real well out of my 06

I would use them on deer, but not on elk. If you do use them on elk, stay away from heavy bone. Good luck.

i took a deer at 40yds last year using the 165gr. sierra gameling' s great wound channel at both ends. blew out both lungs and the heart. did not see a blood trail at the initial point of impact , but 10 yds away it looked like someone threw paint on the ground. seesm like every exhale their was blood.
and to boot they shoot excellent out of my gun.

Its a rarity for a Sierra gameking to not shoot well out of my guns.
