Default What are the proper steps for Firearm Cleaning

When I was growing up all we done was oil them down and put the up for the season.

So what I am wondering is Proper Cleaning procedure for:

1. Semi-Auto Rifles

2. Bolt action Rifle

3. Pump Shot gun

What if any lube do you put in the receiver on each.

Also include any oils, solvents, or anything else I will need.

I clean my guns but I just don't feel I was ever shown the proper way and with what cleaners and lube.

Also is there anyting special I should use on any of the gun styles above.

I know this is a complete newbie question for someone that has had firearms as long as I have but it never hurts to make sure you are doing something right or learn something new.

Thanks

You have a computer. Download the owners manuals for whatever gun you have and print them. They will tell you the right way to clean each one.

Hot water, Hoppes and a little oil is all you should need.
