Default Savage 24 - Rifle/Shotgun Combo

I'm an avid small game hunter. Especially goin for squirrels. Just no better chase in my opinion. I've got a Savage 93 a few years back in 17HMR. I love it during the mid to late season when the leaves have started falling but I'm looking for something for the start of the season. I saw the model 24 in a 17HMR/20ga combo at a local gun shop and my interest was peaked. I think it would be a great addition to my arsenal of squirrel guns. The prospect of having the rifle for the first shot and a shotgun for my second seems like it could come in handy. Has anyone had any experience with this firearm or rifle/shotgun combos in general?

I think everyone should have a rifle/shotgun combo.

2nd gun, after your first .22LR.

Then you should pass it down to your children.....................

Teh 24 has been around for a long time. This was my cousin's first gun. It was a 22WMR/20ga. They are pretty solid guns from what I've seen. I know some other guys who had them in .222/12 ga for turkey. (IMO this combo would make a great coyote rig with a low power scope mounted on it.)

I was semi-addicted to the 24 for a few years. They are for the most part solid guns.

Some of the newer guns have scope mounts that are only hooked on one side, and they move when pressure is applied to the scope.

Also, I had problems zeroing both barrels on most of them that I owned. They shot consistent...but when the scope was zeroed for the rifle, the shotgun was off and vice versa. The best method that I found was to put high scope mounts on and zero the scope for the rifle and the irons for the shotgun.
