If it were me I would buy a stripped lower for $100 - $150 (depending on who's name is stamped on the side) and then get a fully assembled upper from one of the many vendors on line. Simply assemble the stripped lower with the included lower parts kit and attach the upper.

Doing it this way you could just about get two rifles for the price you mentioned. Or a whole bunch of ammo.

Bushmaster Varmiter Special SS, mine impresses me every time I take it out to shoot. In my opinion you cant go wrong with the Bushmaster. Just my opinion. I am sure you could build one cheaper but I dont have any problem with just buying one that is already assembled by a reputable company and is covered by some kind of warranty.

Bulls,

I like the whole bunch of ammo idea, but remember I'm gonna need to put some good glass on it also (scope $$$ seperate issue though).

I was hoping to hear back from you, so go ahead and finish "your" custom recommendation.

Who's uppers do you like ?

yeah build it, not that hard and you pay 12% extra for a complete rifle, you could order upper and lower separate to save that though.

You can get uppers from several places on line. You don't need to go with a "brand name" like Bushmaster, Rock River, etc... and most of these vendors have a number of options that you can upgrade your rifle with.

Here are a few but if you do a search you can find more.

well I like anything with wilson, oly, or pac-nor barrels, its the barrel that makes them shoot well, sure the makers who use shaw, shilen and the like will make a decent rifle, and some good ones but from what I have saw and read, those 3 makers are the more consistant cheaper barrels, hit the big name makers and your assured of a shooter.
