Best .243 on the market?
I am looking into purchasing a .243 and would like to know what the best gun on the market is for this caliber. I have looked at the TC Venture and it is very impressing for the money...are they good guns?

Here are 3 that I'm looking at right now in .270 Win. (My .243 is a Remington 700 SPS DM - great shooter too !).

I'd look at rifles (like the Remington 700 SPS) that use a short action for calibers like the .243. Some (like Mauser actions) use the same long action for the .243 that they use for a .30-06 (example). Long bolt throw not needed.

You might want to refine your question by specifying the intended purpose. I understand the .243 is a pretty versatile caliber, with potential for whitetail as well as varmint shooting. But I'm not sure whether the same rifle would be recommended for either application.

For that price range I'd think I would give the T/C a try.

What are you going to do with it? What's your price range? Varmint bullets or VLD's?

so many options, TC venture didn't make my list though...
If I had to do over I'd certainly want my .243win built on a short action, not a long action. browning, remington, sako, savage, If you wanna spend the $$ and want a lightweight .243, I'd probably go for that Browning A-bolt Ti. Depends on the use for this rifle, varmints, long range, deer and coyotes, most sights have a search option for calibers, with some spec comparisons you can find out whether or not they're built on a short action or long action. If you're looking for a handy 243 to deer hunt and shoot a coyote, then I'd avoid buying a varmint style 243 weight over 9lbs with a 26" barrel. Give us some more info and we can probably narrow it down for you. |

I would personally go with the Browning A-bolt

There are a lot of good ones out there. What is the best for me however, may not be the best for you. Tossing out the 'el-cheapo' models, find the one that fits you and feels good to you.
I once was a diehard Rem fan. Now I have swung almost exclusively to Savage and Browning. But the T/C has some great reviews. Unfortunately I am a southpaw and I've become too accustomed to LH bolts. |
