I've been doing some research into making my .270 Win into a .270 RUM (.300 RUM necked down) and so far I've talked to about 8 smiths and about half of those think it's possible. So I'll probably just buy a reamer and my local smith and I can tinker with it until it works...
Right now I'm running a 26" 1/10 Krieger so I'll stick with 150gr VLD's, hopefully push them around 3400-3600fps. But, since I will have the reamer, a 30" fast twist .270 may come one day too!
Stay tuned, should be a fun project!!

A golf course is a willful and deliberate misuse of a perfectly good rifle range.
The 270-RUM would be cool. How many smiths have told you the 270-RUM would be too much "over-bore"?
How much velocty do you expect to gain over the 270-Weatherby?

Keep us posted on your progress.
Only one smith said its overbore, then I told him about a .270 based on the .338 Lapua and now he thinks that one is waay overbore!!
Not sure how much over a Weatherby, but I'm guessing at least 200fps plus without the free bore and not using expensive Weatherby brass...

RIbadazzz, I'm not going the AM route. I already talked with Kirby, he's waaay to busy plus doesn't want to convert my Sako to a magnum bolt face.
BC, I'm not worried about barrel life...gotta give up something to gain something

Well, without going downstairs to check book specs, I was wondering about opening up the bolt face... guess so...
Yea I need to go mag with it, but since its a Sako action it already has a Sako extractor so it will need modded...

If I make it back out to Nebraska next year, I'll try to change your mind!

Me niether, a .284 is a better way to go, much better bullet selection and there is already a 7mm Ultra Mag. but to each his own, I would love to hear how it turns out for you.
