Default my choice for a scope on my .350 mag , your opinions please

i' ve decided ( somewhat ) on a scope for my .350 rem. mag. , i' m looking at a leupold 1.5-5x ( 30 mm tube ) scope with a illuminated duplex reticle , if i' m right , the straight tube without a large objective housing will fit nicely on the rifle and won' t ( i' m hoping ) get in the way of the rear sight ( which i' m leaving on the rifle definitely ) ,

i could choose the standard models without the illuminated reticle but , i feel the reticle will benifit me in the darker areas of where i hunt.
what are your opinions on this scope or any other possible scopes you' de feel would be better , and remember , the rear sight mount screw is also a main screw mounting the vent rib to the barrel , and i' m not going to change or remove anything with that , so it would have to be a scope that would clear it

so let' s hear some opinions

My choice would be a standard 2x7x40. The larger size objective lens is designed to provide a brighter image in low light conditions. IMO an illuminated reticle doesn' t do a hunter any good if he can' t see what he' s shooting at. I like the idea of a low powered compact variable but I would probably go with a 1 inch tube. If you decide to change scopes in the future you would have more options and wouldn' t have to buy new rings.

Have you looked at Burris, they make a dandy compact with the electra-dot rectical.
I had one mounted on a 450 marlin 1895m fit nice and made it realy a shooter.
It was quite a bit less the the leupold.
Good luck pick' en.BBJ

Whelan, the 1.5-5 would be perfect. I think you should go with 1" though.

I would definetly do the 1 inch tube. As for the tube, I would do the 1.5-5.

I wouldnt buy a variable in that range myself, I tried it years ago and never saw any use for a 1 or 2 power. It actually makes the target look farther away to me. I know the argument for these powers is sight aquisition, but I dont have any trouble aquiring a moving target at 4x. Thats probably what I would put on that rifle. M-8 in straight 4x. Have fun with it.
