Default Rem 722 in 700 stock?

I just bought an old 722 in 308. It was my uncle' s; it shoots great but the stock is very plain. As luck would have it, I found a short action 700 BDL stock for free. The barreled 722 action appears to " fit" the 700 stock (i.e. the dimensions are about the same) but it does not drop in by any means. Anyone know if the 700 stock can be inletted to take the 722 action? Would it be economical and/or worth the trouble?

Default RE: Rem 722 in 700 stock?

I have a buddy who just picked up a custom rifle and it consists of a 722 action with a model 700 trigger and bolt....the reciever is beefier to a degree than the plain 700 but that is the only difference and it is bedded into an HS precision 700 stock.
