Default 7mm-08/308

I've narrowed my gun choices down to the Browning & Winchester. Now I've been flip flopping between the 7-08 & 308.I'd value your input. Please explain why you chose one over the other.

I already own a Rem.700 in 243 caliber.

i dont think you can go wrong with either. I picked the -08 after reading so much about it, i liked the recoil and energy tables and since i also own a 30-06 i just felt the -08 was a better choice as a deer gun. So far so good, the first buck i shot with it last year immediately dropped.

Both are great, saw this question before, I believe I recall the post saying something like the 7mm will shoot a 140gr at the same speed the .308 will shoot a 150.

Unlimited amounts of factory 308 ammo out there...in every option you could imagine.

In some ways I may say the 7mm-08 is better than the .308, but then again the best horse doesn't always win the race. Also the .308 is here to stay.

Can't go wrong with either I don't believe.

You really could flip a coin and be happy with either choice, so don't stress too much, they're so close...

I agree 100% that for the average hunter they'd be pretty much the same. The .308 would more versital but also have down sides relative to the 7mm-08.

I'd go .308Win because I like traditional cartridges and because I reload and I'd like to keep it as cheap as possible so I can shoot as much as possible.

If I were not a handloader I would get the 308 Winchester simply because of the availability of factory ammo.

If you handload or plan to in the future, flip a coin.

IMO the only strong point the 308 has over the 7mm08

While I prefer the 7mm08 over the 308 because it shoots with less kick, if I had to it over again I would go 308 due to such a limited choice in ammo in the 7mm08 caliber.

The reality is they are so similar in all regards it doesn't really matter which caliber you choose.

+1 for the .308, unless you enjoy reloading, then the 7MM -08.
