Default Scope for a Savage model 24

I got a Savage model 24 with 20ga,& 22cal Barrels
and was wondering what would be a good scope to
put on it ? I was wanting one that would give good accuracy
to the 22 but wouldn' t get shaken to pieces when I shoot the 20ga.

Also can a person find bases that will fit 3/8 of an inch grooves?

Any info would be appreciated.

My first recomendation would be none. The 22 would not benifet as much as the 20 would be hurt.

My second choice would be a 1x red dot scope.

My third choice would be a fixed power. Maybe a K2.5 from Weaver.

The local know it all told me to just put on one of them
$9,00 dollar 4x15 Bushnell' s cause it would fit right on the 3/8 grooves
and it would do fine..

But I figured that if you put a scope on there like that you would
have to resight the scope all the time because when you shoot the
20ga it would shake the thing off center..

I would just put one of them scopes on there for the 22 but when
them squirrels start getting squirrelly I' d like to be able to take
them with the 20.

I think a good fixed-power scope would be a good idea, but my concern is: what kind of horrible mounting method are you using that you' re so concerned about the 20 gauge recoil? Heck, it' s nothing compared to say, a .300 Mag, and scopes are generally designed to withstand that kind of shock. Am I missing something?

I have a .222 over 20 ga. and I once had a bushnell 2.5 power on it. I used it for calling in coyotes and would use the shotgun for close in shots and the tripple duce for longer shots. I took the scope off pretty quick. It was a pain when using the shot gun (which I also used for ruffed grouse on occasion).

I now have a 30/30 over 20 ga. as well and no scope on it. I' d like to put a good " peep" sight on one of them and see how I' d do with the shot barrel.

I have a 24V with .222/20. I had a redfield 3X9 Low profile on it until I robbed it for to use on a different rifle. The previouse woner had the gunned tapped to use with a remington scope base. The shotgun never caused me any problems as far as beating up the scope. The shotgun kicked less than my current rifle, because the 24V is so damn heavy. It was strange however trying to bird hunt with the scope on, but it was nice to be able to shoot at coyotes if you kicked them out. I had considered putting the see thru rings on, but that gun is already so tall that it is hard to find a case for it, with the see thru rings I think you would have to leave the scope sticking out of the zipper.

If it was me, I wouldn' t put a scope on it....Thats me

But if you were going to, I would have to say a fixed power scope definetly....with see thru mounts. I would do a Leupold myself.
