Default Competent Gunsmith for my Trigger

As some may know I got a new ruger 77/22 mag. The trigger on it is quite heavey, especially compared to my anshutz. Im not looking for competition weight/crispness, but somethign lighter than stock, maybe around three pounds. Does anyone know of any good gunsmiths around Albany, New York, or anywhere else in the Northeast. I would prefer not to send my rifle in the mail, so places three hours away are fair game for a road trip. Thanks in advance
Bob

Timney makes one that you can replace yourself. I hear its pretty decent. Only 32 dollars at cabelas.

I can take care of that trigger but I and my gunsmithing business are in St. Albans Maine so more then 3 hours away. You might be able to just change the spring in the trigger. The spring in the Ruger triggers belongs in the front end of a truck, not in a rifle trigger. If you need more info, call my at 207-938-3595

What do people think about the timney parts. I looked at cabelas and other spots and it appears that they only make a spring and sear, not the entire trigger. As i said before im not looking for a match grade trigger/job, so would the sear and spring do the trick?

I have one on my 700BDL, and like it. I used to always have the factory triggers modified at the gunsmith, but now just replace them myself. Its cheaper, and the aftermarket triggers are made to be set lower. According to remington, there trigger assembly was never meant to go below 4lbs.

Can' t go wrong with the timney in my opinion.

suppose i install the timney sear and spring. And suppose the trigger pull goes down to 3 pounds. I do not know much about the numbers, but this is what i do know. My anshutz (model 1907) has a hair trigger, just after i take up the pretravel, it will go off. there is very little pressure required. My shotgun (browning gold), ruger 10/22 are all lighter than the 77/22 but no where near the anshutz. Anyhow because i do not know the numbers it is hard to place where a three pound pull will put me at. Based on what i have told you, where would triggers in the 3-4 pound range fall?

Also, what sear/spring setup it better, or rather recomended the timney or Volquartsen, both are the same price.

Sounds like that gun is 6oz or 1lb if its that much of a hair trigger. I used to set all my rifles to 2.5lbs, but have changed my mind a little. Its a little too light for my taste I like my hunting rifles to be 3.5lbs. About like your Browning Gold. Now I see 10/22' s with 7lb pulls these days. I like my 10/22 to be 2.5lbs.
