Default Anyone own a White Gold Medallion?

I just purchased my first Browning. I am going on my first elk hunt this fall in CO.
Anyway, any advice on using the BOSS on the White Gold Medallion? It is a .300Win Mag. I have shot it about twenty times using a 180grain FailSafe. It really doesn' t have the kick that I had expected. Any advice or info on this gun or a better cartridge would be appreciated.

Two things I would do with that rifle...one is to put something on it to cut out the reflections...it will be a signal beacon on any distant game that is looking in your direction. I think there are more bad points than good points to having a boss system but since you have one already you have to use what you have. If you can find the CR version of the boss try that on and see if you can stand the recoil if so then use that...your hearing will thank you as well.... Everything else looks to be in place the 180 failsafes are simply great hunting bullets and the 7mm Rem 300 win mag and 338 would be my pick for a great all around Elk Rifle...there are other cartridges available that fit that bill also but those 3 are chambered in about every rifle currently made on this earth. .

oldelkhunter,
I appreciate your reply. The rifle came with both the CR and the BOSS. I' ll try switching it over.
Also, have you had any expierence hunting west CO. I am going in my first elk hunt this fall. We will be hunting public land in the piceance creek area. I am sure that it will be somewhat different than hunting whitetails here in KY.

I have hunted western Colorado ... bow, muzzleloader and rifle just a few times. Very dangerous area to hunt can be extremely addictive and you will be forced back there unwillingly for the rest of your days if you do go once. I would suggest that you get in peak condition if not already if you plan on hunting the western slope at all.. The next thing is make sure you have great optics with you meaning binoculars, spotting scopes or a combination of both. Your hunts success and your hunts experience will depend on great conditioning and great equipment and I cannot stress it enough. Lots of more experienced outdoorsmen then I post at the Biggame hunting forum and you can usually pick up a lot of really good tips on preparing for a hunt. Is that the right way to spell Piceance Creek? I' m looking at some topo maps I have and couldn' t find it.

I have one in .300 win mag with the BOSS system. I have used Federal High Energy 180gr. with the boss set on about 8. The rifle shoots very well and is one of my favorites.
