Default BAR "Sight-In" Results

A while back I posted about my friend's woes with his newly purchased BAR. I suggested he buy several different factory loads and then I would assist him at the range. Here's the results. I have no dogs in this hunt, just listing the results.

Rem. Express 165 Core Lokt 4.25 MOA (Wow)
Hornady Custom 165 Interbond 2.25 MOA
Winchester Supreme 168 br. Ballistic ST 2.00 MOA
Rem. Premier 180 gr. Core Lokt Ultra Bond PSP 1.75 MOA
Win. Supreme Elite 150 gr. XP3 1.50 MOA
Nosler Custom 150 gr. Partition 1.25 M0A
Rem. Premiere 180 gr. Accutip Boattail 1.25 MOA
Federal Premium 180 gr. Nosler Partition 0.60 MOA !!!

Not believing the results on the Federal, I shot a set of 2-3 shot groups. Practically the same results !! I must say I was amazed at the accuracy of this auto loader, but the trigger really sucked.

My buddy's bad luck when he was sighting in, was that he was using Rem. 165 Core Lokt only. His error was he was adjusting his scope after each shot. He shot 60 rounds !!! So with presumably 4+/- MOA ammo, he was all over the map with his point of impacts. He's much releived now to say the least. He's headed to where he bought the Federal ammo in hopes of finding identical lots ... and then to a gunsmith to get the trigger improved.

Hmm, I may have to try some of these. As I said in the past I've had this issue too. I got crappy groups with the Winchester Ballistic Silvertips I was trying to use. I then tried Remington Core Lokts and it didn't shoot much better either. Not that I've ever had Remington ammo or guns really shoot all that well for me. I then tried the Winchester Power Points and while they were better they weren't great. When I then shot Federal Fusions in 150 grain it seems like I got 1.5"-2" groups which is the best I'd seen. I then tried Federal Soft Points and got 3" groups at first. However, the last few times I've been able to shoot a ground of about 1" or slightly over it with the soft points. Seems like I will shoot a 4 or 5 shot group with them all close together or touching except one or sometimes two which will be a flier. I've been happy with the Federal ammo I've tried but I've never tried the Nolser Partition ones.
