Default .17 hmr?

What is your opinion on the new .17 hmr ammo and guns? I like the thought of having a faster, more accurate shot, but will the cost of shells go down? Hopefully things will get better once more manufacturers make the ammo.

I like the .17hmr alot. Great shooting gun. I' ve shot it in, CZ, Anshutz & NEF/H&R rifles and all shot great. I' m finding the ammo for $10.00. I thought the price might drop a little bit after Remington and CCI came out with their loads of .17hmr but it hasn' t shown yet. I don' t see it dropping too much though, maybe to $8.50 if we are lucky. That' s the going rate for quailty .22wmr ammo so I don' t see it ever going below that. (as in Winchester surpreme or Federal sierra jhp' s)

For 17HMR ammunition www.Midsouthshooterssupply.com is taking orders. Right now they are backordered.Hornady is 7.72 and CCI is 7.66 a box.I have 20 boxes on backorder. Most places I' ve seen the 17 going for 10.00 a box. If you have the time to wait it will save your some money.I was told it will be 10-12 weeks for delievery.
I want to try my Savage out but will wait until the ammo get here.I got one box of Remington 17 HMR when I bought my rifle. It was 10.00 a box at BassPro.

Currently there is only two mfrs of .17HMR.....CCI and Remington.....

CCI makes the ammo for Hornady!!!

We need Winchester and Federal to also produce this cartridge!!

Hey Ruger.... How does shipping affect the cost per box when ordered through Mid-South?

F4YG, I haven' t received this 17 HMR ammo yet. To give you an idea,I went into MS site.I placed 20 boxes in my shopping cart. The estimated Shipping and Insurance is 8.69.That breaks down to approx .43 per box. 7.72+.43= 8.15 . No sales tax since it' s being ordered from out of state. If your local stores are getting 10.00 a box plus tax.Including S&I you' re saving 1.85 plus your local sales tax.I think it' s the way to go.These figures could vary slightly since the S&I were estimated.I have Hornady ordered this time.Next order I might try the CCI.If you decide to place an order at MS you' ll have to either fax or mail them a copy of your drivers license. It' s a one shot deal.Once they receive it,they' ll keep it on file for future purchases.

Thanks RR, I will go to the site later today to check it out. I will tell you this about the CCI in my rifle. It shoots OK, but seems to not want to feed that good. The Hornady and Remington are better for my particular rifle. Thanks again for the info.
