Default 270, 270WSM, 30-06, 7mm Mag 150 gr. Ballistic Comparison

Comparing all 4 cartridges with 150 grain bullets.

Do you think the differences are enough to say that one has a distinct and notable advantage over the other?

Or do you think that they are essentially equal and the differences overall are minimal?

Granted these are factory Federal loads and average ballistics, not taking into account reloading.

THE DIFFERENCE ISN'T WORTH ARGUING ABOUT, any and all will do their job provided you do yours...

From what I have always been told is once you get to the 150 grain and above is when the 7 mm Rem.mag starts to out shine the others.

As stated there isn't enough difference to worry about. all of the cartridges listed will take game out to all reasonable ranges. With the difference in BC, the only factor is how flat it will be. Now mind you your talking differences of less than a few inches at 300 yds.

That's pretty much the way I was looking at it. I've got a 270, 30-06 and an itch for a new rifle.

Then I'd go with something smaller or larger, say 35-45 caliber on the larger end or 243-257 on the lower end.

If you have a .270win, and 30-06 and are looking for something new, I'd either go smaller, or bigger, 7mm Rem.Mag. wouldn't be a choice/option IMO, nothing wrong with it, just too close to the others.

So I'd look at something .243 or smaller and/or .300WSM/win.mag and bigger...

A .243 is pretty versatile from varmints to mule deer, probably ideal antelope round.
and a .300win.mag is a great starting point for elk and larger animals...course with a .338 or larger you can very effectiviely hunt anything big/dangerous in North America if not the world...so maybe consider one of the .338's or a .375H&H if thinking bigger.

Leaning towards another 270, but Stainless/Synthetic this time for abuse factor. No real need for a 243 since vermin are covered by the 223. Everything deer looking will get it from the 270. Any chance for Elk would be met with the 06, although my bud swears by a 270. I guess I'd rather be redundant in caliber then performance. Looks like Hornady makes a 270 load just about equal to 270WSM so no chance for a short mag......and I ain't interested in reloading (let's not go there again)

A word to the wise, while I'm not saying that the Hornady Light Magnum loads won't shoot well in your gun but most people who try them can't get them to shoot well.

I hadn't really planned to use them anyway. It just seems like a little more juice in a 270 Win, and you get WSM numbers. Although I'm sure there is a bit more to it than that.

But then again, ballistic charts really don't mean jack anyway. Kinda like this thread I started before I finished my coffee...Redundancy at its finest.
