Default flip targets

i was thinkin of gettin one of those targets you put up..its a circular shape and when the bullet contacts it ...it spins around or over and comes back to position naturally. they look metal but i would think it wouldnt last long, and on tv it doesnt look like the bullet penetrates the target. but it doesnt look heavey enough, imo , to not be pierced... what do ya think? any suggestions?

It depends what you are shooting at them with.

The .22 flip targets last forever. They make them for handgun calibers and I plan to get one of those, I'm sure they will also last forever with these low-velocity rounds.

The ones meant for centerfire, up to .30-06 I've seen advertised, I have some doubts about. I have two armor plates on my range (very hard AR500 steel) and a .30-06 will put small craters in them at 200 yds, it is not wise to shoot steel closer than that. I can only shoot them with a 300WM from 300 yds, at 200 yds three bullets in the same spot from the 300WM would cut through the 3/8" plate.

They are relatively impervious to a .223 though.

They're fine as long as you use a caliber which the target was built to withstand. Mine was designed for a .22 and I only get lead splatter on it. I thought that I'd try a .38 one day and it bent the target, and my .17hmr damn near penetrated the steel plate, it left a crater where the bullet hit. They do make some that are strong enough for pistol calibers as well. They are a lot more fun than punching holes in paper.

I have three of them and love them. I have two for .22's and they are 5 and 10 years old and still in very good shape. I also have one for centerfire pistols up to .44 mag. I got that one last summer and shot it probably 200 times and the only thing that wears out so far is the stickers. My .44 one is very heavy with the 2" circle on top and a 6" circle on the bottom. They are a blast to shoot and it sure beats going down and plugging holes in targets after every shot for just plinking.

NO. I think you need to get one rated for a 30-06. Then look at the velocity a 30-06 drives the same weight bullet at 100 yds. Whatever range your 300 wsm is down to that velocity, you should be ok.

Like I said, I have AR500 steel, about the hardest you can get, 3/8" think and 300 yds is the closest I can go with a 300WM. At 600 yds it would be great.

Look on ebay, that is where I got my plasma cut AR500 discs pre-drilled to hang from chains. All you would need to do is build a frame to hang them from. I don't remember the price but it was cheap, like $20 a plate or something.

Use the ones that are designed to be shot with specific cals. I ruined by buddy's .22 flip disc real quickly with my .41 mag Ruger.
