Default Bought my Remington 870 supermag.

Due to my recent addiction to hunting I went out and bought me a Remington 870 supermag 12 ga. in the Hardwoods camo. Man I like this gun. Now once deer season is over I can hunt every other thing out there and try to talk my wife into eating it. I use to hunt alot of dove when I was growing up, but thats been 20 to 25 years ago. I remember the days of us going out to my uncles dairy farm and at the end of a 8 hour hunt the group would meet back up near the silos with a count of around 300 dove. Man, those were the days! Look forward to hopefully some more fun like that.

I had a friend that had one and loved it. Ended up selling it because he got offered a good bit of money for it. Turns out he really missed it and the guy that bought it decided he didn't really like it so he sold it back to him. He still has it now and still uses it to hunt and loves it.

On the other hand I had one I hated. I got it because my friend used to really like his. I didn't like it because I always was having problems with it jamming. I had problems with the 2 3/4" shells jamming. Well, some of them. It was like the pump was sticking after firing it sometimes. The chamber polishing fixed this. However, it still randomly jammed with 3" and 3 1/2" shells and that didn't seem to be fixed. By randomly jamming I mean it seemed random and would do different things. Sometimes it wouldn't catch the old shell to pull it out while trying to feed another one in. Sometimes it would try to feed two shells into the chamber at the same time. Sometimes it would stovepipe. Just random stuff way too often. I never liked the one I had. I had another friend that had a 3" version which he sold as he didn't like either. So it seems like you can get a great one or a bad one. I know a couple guys with either 3" or 3 1/2" ones both that love them then I know others that have hated them. Hopefully you got a good one. After my experience with Remington products I think I'd buy a different brand next time if it was me.

Ole reliable 870. Do yourself a favor and polish the chamber with steel wool right now--start with #3, then 0, then 000. They'll work better

Some of the 870 Express models benefit from a DIY chamber polish, but not all of them. Maybe 1 out of 10 Express models have some sort of gunk in the chamber that is easily removed by steel wool on a dowel and a drill. The regular (higher priced) 870 does not ever need it.

I did a barrel polish on mine and now with an Indian Creek choke my 870 SM in hardwoods will consistently put 180 pellets from a 3 1/2 inch number 6 Winchester Supreme Elite inside a 10 inch circle at 40 yards. That's hot death on a turkeys head. Hard to beat a 870 for the price.
