Default .243 WSSM, any good?

Anybody have any experience with this caliber? I have a line on an A-bolt Laminated stainless in .243 wssm for $450, the guy needs $$$. I would like to know if the cal. is worth the cash I'll have to drop for ammo.

If you don't reload, you're left with very few manufactured ammo. choices to choose from.
I've got a .243 wssm., but mine is in the AR configuration and I reload for it. I've used it for both antelope and coyotes. If it weren't for the popularity of the round being built on the AR platform, I'm afraid to say this caliber would die a quicker death.

I wouldn't buy one unless it was chambered in an AR-15 upper. If you want a bolt action rifle, the 243 is a far better choice, or you could even try to find a 6mm Rem or 240 Weatherby Mag (the latter two if you handload).

It is an ok caliber. It really won't do anything a .243 or a 6 mm won't do. if you believe the 6mm's are suitable for deer, then the WSSM is, if you don't, then the WSSM won't change your mind. It does add a few yards of range, but does that matter to you?

You really should be a handloader if you buy this gun. I can see all of the WSSM cartridges becoming very hard to get ammo for, unless the AR crowd saves it.

IMO,Id rather have a 243 Win,if u reload and your friend needs $$$$$,git it!U dont have many ammo choices with the WSSM.
