Leupold VX-I vs VX-II

Ive been looking at scopes and am mainly looking at these 2 leupold models. If any of you have you used both, is there much difference between the two? Especially enough difference to justify the much higher price of the VX-I? Thanks

I had the 2-7 vx1 on a ML and the 1-4 vx1 Sg on a 12 ga sluggun both held up well and the glass was pretty good and bright well beyond legal shooting light. I had an older varix II 3-9 on a 30-06 years ago, it was my 1st decent scope. I didnt hold them all up together for comparison but i really dont recall a huge difference.

There is a noticable difference between the VX-1 and the VX-2. Having said that there is nothing wrong with the VX-1. I have a 2-7x33 VX-1 on a T/C Omega and have never had any trouble at dawn or dusk. I also have an older Vari-X IIc(essentially the same optics as the VX-1) on a Ruger M77 that has functioned flawlessly for years.

There are a lot better scopes out there for the same money you'll spend on a VX-I. If you can't afford the VX-II then buy another brand.

Right now Budsgunshop.com has the Bushnell 4200 3x9x40 for $250 shipped. Those scopes blow away the Vx 1's and 2's. The glass is in the same category as the VX3's. I doubt you will find a better deal going right now then that scope for that price.

Natchezss.com has the 4200 2x10x40 for $300 that is also a very good deal.

Leupy's are great but are without a doubt overpriced.

Personally I wouldn't own a rifleman or VX1. $200ish for that type of quality is redonkulus!!!!

I was looking at those bushnells and saw the firefly recticle. Is that something you can turn on and off or is it always that green color? Seems it might be difficult to see on a bright day

The firefly recticle is black unless you charge it. If you never put your flash light upto it, it will never glow.

I've shot Vari X-II scopes all my life on several different rifles. I loved them all. Nice clear picture, durable, decent light-gathering and accurate. I have an old one on a 30-06 that has never moved from POI in decades

I've shot rifles with Zeiss and Swarovski. While they're nice, they're not nice enough over the VX-II to justify the price.

I shot my share of the bargain Tasco, Bushnell, etc... and they are crapola.

Get the VX-II and never look back.

+1 Duckbutter's comments. I'd take a Bushy 4200 over a Leupy I or II any day.
