Default 444 marilin vs 45/70

Hey guys my buddy and I are having a bet.
If you had to have 1 marlin to take anything in the world down, what rifle would it be?

I understand that but what would yalls preference be? I say the 444 just because the ballistics are in favor there, But you can hot load a 45 just the same......but then theres weight involved , ect. Thats why im asking opinions on here.

Cheers!

When you say same, you mean the same ballistics?

A 45/70 with maxed out handloads is a serious load.
Not sure how it would compare to a handloaded 444 Marlin but I would still take the 45/70.

You think either a 444 or a 45/70 could take any african game? Not that id want to , just curious.

YEs, and with the proper loads the dead animal would never know the difference.

BTW I love your avatar Bigbulls!

I just cant decide which one of these to get. This came about from a friend of mine from when I was in the service, when we where in afghanland we talked about hunting a animal with 1 gun on everywhere possible, from whitetail here in the midwest to bear in alaska to elk to red stag, to buffalo to water buffalo ect. I say the 45/70 the more I think about it just because of the bullet it self. Does my logic sound right?

the right bullet in the right spot from either of these weapons will bring down a big tusker .but they both are under powered for capes and elephants, and most guides will talk you out of it before you get there. you can muster up 3200 lbs out of the 45/70 and around 3100 out of the 444.which is serious power though.
