Winchester Rifel in .38 Remington?

I have a friend who says he hunts with a lever action Winchester in .38 Rem. caliber. Is this the .38 handgun caliber or is there something out there I've never heard of?

Never heard of it either.
I'm guessing but it's either an obsolete black powder round or your friend is calling his round by the wrong name.
