Try looking for opinions at www.rimfirecentral.com you can look up each gun and read what people think about them.

Default good .22

Take a look at RUGER 10/22. I have one of first ones that come out and still shoots like the day I got it.

Ruger 10/22 would be my first choice also. My second would be a Marlin 60.

I know it is not one of the ones you mentioned but my wife and I got our son a Savage Mark II GL( the L is for lefties) bolt action. I have been very impressed with it thus far.

I have had a Marlin Mod.60 for 35 years and a Mod. 925 for 20 years...........I keep 2 extra clips loaded in my pocket and can shoot 21 shots as quick as I want with the 925......

Ruger 10/22. Everybody's gotta have a 10/22... I think it's a law or something.

Wouldn't part with mine. Taught my wife to shoot with it, and I'll teach all three of my kids to shoot with it. Great little 22.

I recommend going to look at them and maybe that'll help you narrow them down. The Remington would be last on my list and I like Remington. The Model 597 just looks like cheap crap to me.

I have the Marlin 795 SS, bought only about 2 years ago.

I HAD a Ruger 10/22 for a few months before that. Total piece of crap. It had miserable accuracy and I tried every brand of ammo I could lay my hands on. Some were better than others, but none of them produced the accuracy that I now get with the Marlin using whatever I care to feed it.

I could forgive the 10/22's bad stock, poor mag release and clunky fittings, but the lack of accuracy was unforgiveable. Accuracy problems with the 10/22 are well known, this problem may have been confined to a certain period of time, but I wasn't about to buy another one to see if it, too, was a POS.
