Default A-bolt M1000 300 win mag?

I am thinking of putting together a new gun/scope package together, not because I need it, but because I want to. Because I like my A-Bolt 270 so much, I was thinking of the M-1000 300 win mag with the boss. I am not concerned with the weight, cause I still hunt for the most part, and longer range shots in the open fields are common occurrences. I have budgeted $3000, so I am able to put a high end piece of glass on top ( probably a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44 Rapid z 800). Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this gun?

I've killed a bunch of stuff with a Browning A-Bolt in .300 Win Mag. I love it and would replace it in a heartbeat if it broke. Stay away from the BOSS system however, I have never known anyone who hasn't had problems with them. The Browning is a tack driver without it. Zeiss is a great scope, if you can afford it, and it seems your budget can!

Hardly see the point of spending that on a scope. You can pick up a nikon monarch and get just as good of glass for alot cheaper. Spend your money on ammo. That monarch can shoot as good as you can

Oh ya forgot to mention I own a browning white gold medallion in 300 mag with the BOSS. The BOSS Is an amazing piece of technology.

That Gold Medallion is a great rifle, and if the BOSS works for you that's good enough! Stay with the good scope. Although the price is a bit steep you can't beat Zeiss or Swarovski optics. I constantly see guys with $1,500 rifles and $50 scopes. Needs to be the other way around. Have a Merry Christmas with whatever you select!

Monarch scope is hardly a 50 dollar scope. But, whatever flavors your Kool aide. I would just stay away from Short Mags.

Short mags are fine, I know a bunch of guys who shoot and love them but I always worry about being in Moose Spit Crossing Wy and having to look for a box of .300 WSSM. Everybody carries .270, 30-06, 7mm Mag and .300 Win Mag.

With a 300 wsm you don't need a box of bullets ,one shot is all you need if the hunter does his home-work on the range .. as for the BOSS i have one on my s/s stalker and once its tunned in [sweet spot] it realy closes the groups on target if the hunter or shooter does his part ..regards

Ol'Mongo I agree. The short mags are fine as far as effectivness. but it would be a bad deal to forget you shells and not be able to find any. Esp. if you have 8000 or 10000 sunk in a trip.

Yeah, when I went to Africa my buddy and I split our ammo in case they lost one of our bags and I'm getting to the age where I have to use a check list before I go anywhere so I don't forget my ammo, ...... just in case!
