Was it loaded?
If it was loaded was it loaded with the correct ammo?
I know these seem like stupid questions but being a gunsmith and working in a gun and archery shop you would be surprised at the stupid stuff that gets asked and the problems that people have with guns.
Assuming it was loaded... were there any marks on the primer from the firing pin?
If there wasn't a firing pin mark on the primer then you probably have a broken firing pin which is easily replaced.
If there was a mark on the primer then you probably need to clean the inside of the bolt and the firing pin spring because it is likely dirty and gummed up with old oil and the firing pin just moved too slowly to ignite the primer.
If none of this is the problem then you likely have an ammo problem of some kind. Such as bad primers.
