Default WI - Handgun Laws?

Was just wondering if anyone is familiar with or can point me to carrying laws for handguns (in the woods). Can I carry a handgun while bow hunting? I shot a deer last week, and when I came to it there were wolves circling me. My neighbors hunting dogs (valued at $5,000 each) were killed by wolves last year, and it makes me feel better than I may be able to carry a firearm. Also, I like to walk my land with my dogs as well. I know my neighbor said he would have been able to save his dogs if he had some sort of firearm.

Thanks

This very question came up on another website, and as long as it is VISIBLE you may open carry. Meaning NO CONCEALED CARRY, transportation by vehilce weapon must be unloaded and cased. There is also mention of open carry I believe in the deer regulations, though I may be wrong. It may not hurt to also call the regional DNR office for further explanation.
