Default 308 Marlin Express vs 307 Win

I've seen a number of threads in the last few weeks about the 308 Marlin Express.

Aren't the 308 ME and the failed 307 Win basically the same idea.
Both are hailed as "Almost a 308" but rimmed for use in a lever action.

The word 'almost' = never quite enough

I really don't expect the .308 Marlin to fare any better. Apparently either arms manufacturers have very short memories or the newest batch doesn't read any of the history of such things.

If I wanted more long range 30cal ooomph from a lever, I'd just get a Browning BLR in .308 and be done with it.
Cheaper ammo you can find anywhere.

Exactly. The BLR is a nice gun but it isn't exactly flying out of gun shops.
IMO it's a classic example of a manufacturer trying to create a market where one doesn't exist.
