Default How does a new stock affect scope?

I have just replaced my wood stock with a new Bell & Carlson composite stock on my 7mm. I went to the range and the gun did not hit the target (12 inch target)with 3 shots (at 100 yards). My gun shot well with the original stock. Can changing stocks affect the way the gun shoots or did I hit the gun in the offseason and knock it off? I have never knocked off one of my scopes before.

It doesn' t affect your scope at all, it effects your rifle, the POA will not change, but your POI will, the bbl will vibrate differently and the receiver will set-back differently, different pressure points=different POI. Truth be told, changing the torsion on the screws of a stock can have an effect on POI, even if you don' t really change anything.

I agree....but also check the scope mount screws.....sometimes they loosen over a few months time.

Most likely the problem is the gun' s bedding as stated earlier.

Thanks for the comments. I expected the gun to shoot differently and I expected that the scope sould need some adjusting. I could not hit a 12" x 12" square at 100 yards when I was shooting 2" groups with the old scope. That shocked me! I looked at the mouting of the stock and it did have a pressure point at the end of it. The screws were torqued down well and the stock is aluminum bedded and the fit was real good from the stock to the steel. I guess that I will have to bring it to a gun shop to look at it.
