A few hundred thousand deer wouldn't like the Marlin 336 at all. Unfortunately, because of a Marlin 336, none of them were available for comment.

Thanks, just want one to have mostly. It will also be good for hunting out of a treestand at close range.I have a 243 bolt action for long range,(up to 300 yards on deer).

I just bought one in stainless steel. I'm shooting the Hornady Leverevolution ammo, which they claim turns this gun into a 250 yard rifle.

Driftrider said it best.

IMHO, they are great guns. I have a Glenfield 30A, which is the value version of the 336. It's been my go-to gun for Michigan whitetail hunting since 1983.

Yes they are great rifles. I have heard that Marlin has put out some clunkers in recent years but I can't say if that applies to the 336. Check out the Marlinowners board and see what they are saying. They have a forum dedicated to the 336 I think.

I really like levers for still hunting, where shots will be close and I may get a shot at a moving deer. Mine have peep sights and are very handy. For a treestand, regardless of range, I prefer a scoped gun for precision shooting. Usually I'm shooting at a still or slowly moving deer.

Yes it is good. BUT the new 300 or 338 Marlin Express are better...same gun, better cartridge! Even a 35 Remington would be better.
