Default Cant find the date of manufacture for my gun

Guys im trying to find some information on my rifle my girlfriend got me. Its a Winchester Model 70 .270 "Lightweight". The shop she bought it from, the owner (who is VERY knowledgeable on guns) told her something about it being "limited edition" or "special", or something along those lines. The guys at Gander Mountain have never heard of a Model 70 "Lightweight". Can someone please help me on this. The gun is in very good condition. The serial number is G2131515. Thanks for any info you have.

Try www.proofhouse.com. Also, it's best not to post entire gun serial #'s on the net.

Not to argue, but why is that?

It is a push feed model 70.

The lightweight "carbine" was introduced in 1984 and featured a short barrel of 20 inches. It was produced until 1987 in this configuration.

In 1987 the lightweight was made with the longer 22" (I believe) barrels.

I don't know when the "long barrel" lightweight was discontinued.

My 24th edition of Blue Book of Gun Values indicates that the "carbine" or 20" version was made from 1984-87, as bigbulls said. It also lists the 22" version of the Model 70 Lightweight Rifle as being produced from 1987-95. No production numbers are listed.....

Provided it is the "short" version you would be correct. But I wouldn't say that it is all that collectible. But it would make one hell of a "woods" rifle.

The 270 win caliber in the lightweight model 70 rifle was manufactured from 1988 to 1992 , the lightweight carbine was from manufactured from 1984 to 1987 . This is from the gun value book .
