Default Recoil??

I am thinking of the browning x-bolt in stainless synthetic. They are suppose to have a nice recoil pad. It weighs a little over 6 pounds, add the scope 14-17oz, ammo, 3 rounds, sling, I am thinking it shoud weigh about 71/2-73/4, I will be shooting the 140grain accubond, I shoot my 10# 300wsm like a 243 no problems with recoil but have not shot the 270 round much, will the recoil be tolerable overall?? I understand that recoilis subjective.
Thanks
Dale

If you can handle a 300WSM, you shouldn't have an issue with a 270.

I wouldn't lock myself into shooting a specific bullet weight or type if you haven't even shot the rifle yet. You might find something you like better. I've shot 130's, 140's and 150's out of mine and always go back to 130's for deer hunting.

I am going on a combo elk/black bear hunt and want to lug the light rifle and take them with a 270wsm, I know it sounds crazy but I don't want to take the 300wsm

I like lighter rifles myself but haven't shot a 270WSM but I still don't think the recoil would be a problem.
I thought you was referring the old time 270Winbut I think shooting a 140gr Accubond would a good choice for your hunt.
Have fun and good luck.

I have the X bolt in 300 WSM. Recoil-wise, it's not bad. The pad they put on them is very soft and squishy and does a good job. The .270 should be no problem at all.

I've ordered an X-bolt in .338 and know that it's going to kick.

However this is for shooting the big boys, not for bench shooting.

The .270 you should be able to handle on the bench and I never knew anyone who felt recoil when shooting at game.

If you can handle your 300wsm then the 270 will pose no more recoil however it will not be a lot less either due to the big weigh difference. Just running some quick numbers through my reloading programs gives the 140gr Ab At mv of 3200 fps out of 7.5# rig = 20 foot#'s of free recoil. Compared to 21.5 on a 180gr bullet at 3000fps on a 10# rig.

I'd also think about trying the Barnes TSX for your bullet, a good choice for both animals you intend to hunt.
