Default Sako 85

I just bought a Sako 85 and I am looking for scope rings
My plan is to mount a Leupold Var III 50mm
Is there anywhere I can talk to someone to help me identify the correct size rings?
Any manufacturers you would recommend?
I have heard about Tally and Warne...any preferences?
thanks

one other thing..does anyone have any experience with quik release mounts? pros cons?

What's the caliber? intended use?

may consider a zeiss conquest scope, 44mm or 50mm.

I really like both sets of talley's I have, they have a size guide on their site, though you can call them and perhaps get away with a lower height size.

The caliber is a .338 federal and the use will be for elk / moose
I have a Conquest on my Tikka and they are very nice scopes. I may look at that also

For that setup I think I'd get something in the 2.5-10x range. If you don't over over 10x I think I'd just pick a 44mm objective, I think they start to get pretty big once they hit 50mm, but more light is more light.

I've mostly used talley's and leupold bases/mounts, from now on I'll probably only be using talley's, unless I find something I like even more. I wouldn't bother with Quick Release mounts.

Red face setup opinions...

Regarding rings, I would definitely say Talley's are good. I have them on my Sako 75. Conetrols are also very nice, but quite pricey. As much as I like Warne's, steer clear of their Sako mounts. There have been a lot of issues with the tapered dovetail measurements and fitments. I got some that did not fit....way too loose and sloppy. The gent at Warne (that I talked to) said they have had many "issues" with Sako, and were going to quit trying. Scope-wise, the Conquests are nice, but also consider the Sightron Big Sky line. They are a lot of scope for the money. I'd not hesitate with a VX3 Leupy also. Good luck.

I don't have an 85 but a 75 instead which has the same mounting system. I have the Sako Opti Lok bases and rings. They are made well and a fairly solid mounting system. I have the SS ones and they are bead blasted that matches the gun. I'm not all that crazy about Sako mounting system though. The Opti Lok's are on the high side and even with the low rings there should be plenty clearence for a 50mm objective. I have a Conquest with a 44mm objective and there is a pretty good sized gap. It does line up with my eye peferctly which is what counts. The Opti Lok's can be expensive if you can't get some one to deal with you.

I put Burris Zee rings on my 7MM Sako A7

Keeps the scope in perfect condition.

The 75/85 mounting system is different than that of the A7. I like the A7's mounting system better though.

I put my vote in on the talleys. I put them on my 300 wby and they look great and function perfect. They have great customer service so you call them up and ask what size they recommend for the 50mm.
