Hey guys i'm lookin at buyin a .308 i was looking at all the different brands and i'm down to tikka, savage, remington, browning ( only the new x bolt tho) so if you were to buy a 308 for long range varmit hunting and maybe for deer or elk or anthing else what brand and modle wouldit be. oh and i'm only getting a laminte or synthetic stock w/ a stainless barrel please let me know what you think and if you would happen to own a great shoting gun that i didn't mention tell me so i can check it out

depending on what you have to throw around i would say invest in a stock that is fully bedded
reason being is since your looking at long range shooting the free float could help you
not to say you can't get good results with a standard stock, cause you can, just the free floater may help you
all the brands listed are good
i have a winchester
but if i was to pick out of the one you listed i would go with the one on sale
love the idea of a stainless barrel
my best shooting barrels have always been stainless
don't forget to get some good glass too
i usually look at Cabelas bargain cave or surf the net for specials
when ya get her send us some pics and range results

How long is "long range" to you?

A golf course is a willful and deliberate misuse of a perfectly good rifle range.

when your talking "Long Range" its not the rifle, the cartridge or the bullet, Its a complete shooting system that must be used in conjuction to do it properly.
You need an accurate rifle, a repeatable scope, a rangefinder, and ways to measure wind speed and direction, and some way to measure atmospheric conditions, and a drop chart or ballistic program tuned to your load. one is useless without the rest. leave out 1 of the items and your just guessing.
this is what I've been told.

I would also suggest looking at Ruger's stainless Hawkeye,Wins syn/stainless, and TC's Icon.
