just picked up a 99% smith and wesson mountain gun in 45colt, it;s stainless, i got it cause it;s alot lighter than my anaconda 44mag, and it' ll use it as a trail gun. the question is can i use the high pressure cor bon, buffalo bore or garrett ammo in it,

if not whats a good stout factory load for it?

i dont know if garrett makes a heavy 45colt load or not but i wouldnt use one of theres in anything less than a ruger or a FA. the S&Ws just seem to be a bit more delicate than is needed for really big stuff. that and garretts may be loaded to an OAL to long for the smith. id check with buffalobore or corbon them selves on those 2. or go over to the sixgunner forums and ask there. they seem to know more about handguns than here

I wouldn' t do it. I love the .45colt Mountain Gun and have shot it alot, but it' s not a Ruger or FA' s. The tapered barrel and all would scare me with shooting those +P' s.

thanks i didn;t think so, i looked around and nothing says i can so i;m gonna take it as a no, i got a reply from jeff quinn from gunblast.com on a really good 45colt load, which he got from john taffin. i;m gonna try that out. sounds like it should have some oomff if i need it, yet safe in any modern 45colt thats good to shoot

Uhhh a 625 is a 45acp not a 45 colt!
you should be able to shoot +p' s in it with no problem.

Pauly, take a look at the thickness (or, thin-ness!!) of the chamber walls, and then look where the locking bolt cut is. I think you can use up to 10 grains of Unique with Uncle Elmer' s 250-grain cast semi-wadcutter, and kill deer NO SWEAT with this piece, BUT IF YOU TRY LOADS DESiGNATED FOR RUGER BLACKHAWKS OR TC CONTENDERRS, you are risking swollen chambers or a blown cylinder!! What? No 625' s in .45 Colt? There are plenty of them in the M 25' s!

Other than the hot " semi-custom" ammo you listed, all .45 Colt factory stuff is about the same. There may be a faster WW Silvertip load in .45 Colt, perhaps, but it has a lighter bullet. The .45 Colt needs heavy bullets or you are shooting pretty much a round ball!!
