Default Any thoughts on a Remington model 7600 pump action in .243 cal.?

Hey guys, I was in a gun shop today and saw a neat pump action in .243 caliber. Anyone have this gun and how do you like it? What size game and predators is this gun lethal? This was open sights and has a 4 shot clip. Would this gun be as potent as say lever guns in 30-30, .35 remington, 308???? Looking for a gun to put on my rack while out in the woods. Is this cartridge found in any shop around the nation or is it hard to find in stores?

The .243 is a highly accurate round with enough power to kill critters up to the size of a deer as well as the otherrounds you mentioned. However, the accuracy is waisted in a pump gun with open sights. You would normallysee that caliber in a scoped bolt-action rifle. And, I suspect, you'd bebetter served with a bolt gun if you plan on hunting predators as well as deer with it.

As stated, the .243 is plenty of gun for deer & below. It's likely THE best round for coyotes/groundhogs/deer combined. You may or may not experience the level of accuracy desired with the Remington 760/7600. It would beg to be scoped of course.

actually the m7600 is very accurate , i've got five variants of the pump 760 from the original 760 , 7600 , and a 7615 , and they are accurate as the barrels are free floating. THEY'RE NOT BOLT ACTION ACCURATE but , for being in the woods you don't normally get five hundred yard shots . they are very good rifles

Labeling pump rifles as being inaccurate is a misnomer.I've been hunting with a760 carbine (308) for 25 years, and it's accuracy amazes me. And mine isn't a fluke. Another plus for me is how it shoulders and balances. It was mynumber one deer rifle until my son borrowed it 2 years ago. Lucky him, I love him more than the rifle!

Hey spiff my father actually had a friend give him a 760 in a 243. in mint condition for helping him out doing allot of work for him. He did scope it with a 3-9x40 and used 80grain bullets. I used it on opening day and ended up getting the best buck of my life with it. When I shot a the buck he was at only 35 yards, well needless to say I got a little excited and and hit him low. He started to run so I pumped another round in put the crosshairs in the opening he was headed for and as soon as his neck was in the scopeI squeezed Off and dropped him(at about 55-60 yards). A few days later my dad in same standwith the 243.took a nice 8 point at 300 yards. When he shot the buck it dropped straight down and never moved a muscle. A couple does were taken with that gun the following couple of weeks and they didnt go very far. The gun is very accurate even though some may say its not because of it being a pump I think the free floating barrel helps out allot. Even my 15 year old nephew was shooting it at 60 yards with no resthad all four holes touching. Oh yeah one last thing the scope was bought at wally world on sale for $17. So personally we have had great luck with the gun and we always joke about how well his $17 gun did last year.

I've got a 270-7600 and it shoots consistent 1" groups at 100 yards using 130 gr Rem CL. I would not call this an inaccurate gun within 250-300 yards. Beyond those ranges then the trusty bolt action receives my vote.

Why? Does the accuracy of your 7600 degrade beyond 300 yards?
