Default Pre 64 action

I just picked up a Win pre 64 action with a 06 bolt face. I am interested in having a 257 weatherby built and was hoping this action would work. It is missing the lever for the bolt release. It is in decent shape but sombody did some half arse work to the bolt. I pd. $160 for it.
Does anybody know of a blown up photo so I can check the parts ? ..thanks

Try Numrich Arms .....www.e-gunparts.com. Do a little navigation and you should find a schematic of what you are looking for. There is a good chance they will have the part, too....

The 257 Wby is a smoking little cartridge. I absolutely love mine and I am really looking forward to trying it out on deer. Shoots flatter than a 300 RUM, kicks less than a 270 Win, and should be lightning death to any deer unfortunate enough to give me a good shot.

If you want to do what you say though, you'll have to get the bolt face/extractor modified to magnum size. The 257 Wby is based on the 375 H&H size case head, and won't fit on a standard (30-06 size) bolt face. Other than that, I doubt that you'll have too much trouble finding parts, and there isn't too much cruddy shade-tree gunmithing that a good professional gunsmith can't fix, so I wouldn't worry about that. It also sounds like you got a very good price. True pre-64 Model 70's regularly sell for well over $1000 now-a-days, so it's well worth what you paid for it unless the condition is unsalvageable.

Mike

I really like the 1/4 bore and I think the weatherby will be a great for deer out west. The action was made in 1959.. Thanks

A257 WM is abelted case which you would have tohave some work done to the bolt face. However theRoberts will work perfectly on you 06 action. The 06 is magazine box is a little longer and will allow you to seat the bullets out to the lands and still fit in the box. Thats what I am building the wife right now on a Savage 110 action. Can't wait to get it done!

I would make it a 25/'06. That way no alterations to bolt or magazine will be needed. You might also look at the 25/284 or 6.5/284.

I have a 250 savage, 2- Bob's and a 25/06. I am looking for a 25 with more.. I read that the 25/284 just duplicates the 06.

Yes, it does. But the short, fat case is easier to develop accurate loads for. 25/'06 ballistics are nothing to sneeze at. But iof the belted case motivates you, go for it!
