Although I have shot deer with it, it's a bit overkill.... but the .338 Win Mag is just about the perfect BIG game North American rifle....

There is a .338 gun club here in wyoming, the first gun that ever gave me a bloody eye brow and a nice black eye to go along with it was a .338, what would you recommend for loads pawildman?

A 7mm Mag would be a good choice, 140 gr. for deer, 160 gr. for elk/moose.

LOL.....Better get some more eye relief with that rig!! Since I started to work up a load for my .338 I've been trying to get Nosler Partition 210's to shoot in it, but haven't been able to get the accuracy I am looking for. Went through several different powders, but wasn't satisfied. I'm going to switch bullets, and try some 225 gr. Some of the guys who load for that cartridge have had decent luck going that route. Bear season snuck up on me quickly, and I put the .338 down for awhile, and got my 45/70 cooking good. I'll get back to the WinMag again soon....I hope...... I've killed several black bear with the .338 and factory 200 gr. bullets in the past. I really wanted to get it going for this past season with reloads, but ran out of time and patience....
