Default 44 mag question

Hello all. I may have a chance to shoot a 44 mag in the near future and would like to do so. I can handle a 45acp without a problem. Is the recoil from 44 magnum much greater than this?

There are a lot of varibles that determine felt recoil, bullet weight, velocity and gun weight to name a few.
On average you should expect 15-25% more felt recoil over a 45acp.

It all depends on what grips are on it, physical weight, whether it's ported or not, etc. I would guess revolver so it'll probably feel like 40-50% more recoil than a .45acp. If it has rubber grips you can deduct 15-20% felt recoil. The recoil of an .44mag is VERY easy to control, and is over rated. Quit worrying and enjoy shooting.

The .44 Magnum does indeed have more recoil than the .45 ACP. However, that being said, anyone who can comfortably handle a .45 should have no problem with the .44 Mag.

If recoil is really a concern, try to avoid the smaller framed .44s and the airlite (Mountain) versions with less than 4" barrels. Also avoid the really hot .44 loads like the Garrett.

I shot this guy with one hand, as he strolled bye behind my tree stand set-up.
Just wear ear protection!

Son of a @$#@$%#%% that was loud!

Just hang onto it. They kick, but it's nothing to worry about. A couple shots and you'll be popping away with no problem.

Fellow NH-rite! Nice deer.You must have taken him fairly close as I do not see a scope on that rig...nevertheless that's a trophy.I do not own a .44 mag but am thinking on scoping my .357 and do a little NH handgun hunting myself. Ear protection on the range is a must but out huntingyou'll find most will not use. I hunt as much with my ears as I do my eyes.

My 1st and hopefully not my last.

I actually took the scope of a few years ago and shot him @ 20 yards or so.
He went two feet... Straight down! Yahtzee
