Default remington model 48 sportsman

hey i just bought a remington model 48 sportsman and i heard you need to adjust a friction ring to shoot light loads or heavy loads , it shoots heavy loads and ejects them great . but when i shoot light loads it wont eject them so i was wondering how you change the rings thanks.

My uncle has one that used to belong to my Grandpa (his dad). I believe if my memory is correct the rings need to be set in two different ways for light to heavy loads. Best contact Remington. They may have a online manual or should be able to seen you one.

It's been too many years ago for me to remember well. All I can remember is something about how the rings were posistioned. Sorry, try to get a hold of Remington for a manual. Good Luck

If my memory is correct, it had a split brass ring that you just turned over for field loads...

I had a Mod. 11 that had 2 rings, one was a split bronze ring with a steel tension keeper, the other was a steel ring, beveled on one side and flat on the other. The beveled steel ring went on forward of the split bronze ring. For heavy loads, the beveled side faced the bronze ring, for light loads the flat side faced the split bronze. The 11 was the predecessor to the 48. The systems could be the same.

The Browning Auto 5, the Remington 11, 11-48, Sportsman 48, and the Savage (number ?)square backed auto all used the same system--Browning patent recoil operation. It has been so long sinceI owned one of the above that I do not remember the exact positioning for high or low velocity shells.I believe the beveled ring was bevel up for one and reversed for the other. A manual for any of the above shotgun modelsshould help you out.

Yes, turn the ring over and that should do it. I killed a lot of quail with a 48 before it wore out.
