Default .25-06

Hey guys,

Do you guys have any experience with hunting deer with the .25-06 caliber? I am looking into one and have heard very good reviews. I am looking into the Marlin XL7.

Thanks

I shot a deer last year @ 100 yards with an Encore - 25-06 and the insides were destroyed. The deer took about6 steps and dropped. I borrowed the gun for a day and was so impressed with the caliber that I bought an XL7 in .25-06 a few weeks ago. I haven't shot it yet butexpect big thingswith it come this fall. This caliber can tap them outto 400 yards if needed.

The 25-06 is a terrific deer round.

Nothing wrong with it at all, though you may want to consider a 7mm-08 or .270 win.

My good buddy, Huie, has been a great fan of his 25.06 for as long as I have know him --- since 1974. No telling how many deer he has taken with his.

I have had excellent results with the 25-06 and 117 grain Sierra Game Kings.

I have handloaded the 25-06 for a friend. Every shothas beena hit and an instant kill. One thing he does not care for and that is how much meat you lose with this cartridge. We would use 117 to 120 gr bullets, but that bullet is really moving. If I hunted varmints, coyotes, deer andmaybe elkand wanted only one caliber, I would go with the 25-06. If I wanted just a deer/elk rifle, I would go with a caliber that is bigger with a slower and heavier bullet (7mm-08, 308, 270, 280, 30-06).
