How many shoots Hornady?

Just got a new .308Win Medallion. Man, this gun is a shooter. Less than one inch groups with Fed Premium Sierra Gamekings, Fed Premium Nosler Bullistic Tips, and about 1.2" groups with Factory Rem. Coreloks. So I talked my buddy into buying Hornady Light Magnum 150gr Interloks. He has a tactical FN, that shoots very, very good. .5" groups at 100 yards are the norm for this. But he also paid 1400 dollars for it.

We shot this stuff out of three guns. All capable of less than 1" groups at 100 yards. We all got 4" groups or more. Anybody else have good luck with there ammo? Thus far, seems like junk. I know a bunch of people will get on here with the regular bla bla about every gun likes different stuff. But three guns. Thats amazing.

Bigcountry, I have shot factory Hornady ammo off and on for years. In most cases it gives comparable accuracy to other premium loads like Federal. Out of my 270 federal was the clear winner in accuracy. However last fall I had Hornady SST' s out perform Federal Premium NBT' s at both 100 and 200 yards with 150Gr out of my 7mm Rem Mag.

I have been pleased with Hornady bullets, but if they gave me groups like you mentioned I surely wouldn' t be shooting them. Quick question were they all the same lot? I had that happen with winchester supremes in my 270 a few years back, before grouped well but got a box that wouldn' t. I picked up a box with different lot number in supremes/same bullet style and they were better. Just a thought.

Hmm.....I like Hornady bullets even though I use most for pistol calibers rather than rifles.
I wonder if it might have to do with it being that Light Magnum type of ammo? I' m not too fond of the concept of pushing beyond the original limits of a cartridge. And the process for making these rounds is supposedly pretty finicky.[&:]

I' ve shot Hornady factory ammo in the past and although the accuracy wasn' t great it wasn' t any worst than other factory ammo i' ve tried so i' ll say it was acceptable. I do however love the way their bullets perform on game and since i started reloading the red & white boxes now take up most of the space in my reloading cabinet as well. I use Hornady bullets more than any other brand in my rifles and pistols and have never had a problem with their accuracy or their performance on game. In my opinion Hornady makes a quality bullet.

Well, I load Hornady pistol, but the Sierra green sticks out on my reloading bench. Maybe gold and black more. Called Hornady. They said they will shoot the left overs and help me out on it. Thanks for the advise. This is the first time shooting light magnums.

I' ve had great luck with Hornady bullets in many different cartridge/rifle combinations. I' ve only used their Light Mag factory ammo once, in a .308 Win Ruger M77 RSI. They didn' t group all that well so I ended up going with Federal Premium on that elk hunt.

Afterward, it occured to me that if I needed something extra in the way of horsepower, I was probably not too bright trying to turn an 18 1/2" barreled .308 into a 22" barreled .30-06. The next day I took my .270 Wby Mag into the woods and made a nice one-shot kill on a 6-pt bull at 225 yards. [X(]

And never once did I have to worry about THAT cartridge/rifle/bullet (150gr Nosler Partition) combination being able to do any I job I needed it to do.

I was reading about this light magnum stuff on there web page. This is what they have to say.

This is achieved by combining a special cool-burning powder with a new loading technique

Now you tell me what special technique they have??? They are full of it.

Big Country.....I assure you they are not full of it..........

It' s simple.....if they don' t shoot well, don' t shoot them and don' t buy them anymore.

In my guns Hornady bullets are excellent......and I shoot a lot!!! I' ve never shot their light or heavy magnums, and the result is for each of us to discover.......when I reload I have a world of options.....when I buy loaded ammo.....I have only one.....buy more or stop.

Please don' t confuse loaded ammo with the same company' s bullets.....it' s not the same ball park.

If you feel like spending a few bucks and have some extra time, load some up yourself and see how they preform. I' ll bet your loads are better!! Good shooting.
