We have another new 30 caliber compact magnum. The 30 RCM(Ruger Compact Magnum). What do you think about that?? Tom.

The .338 RCM offers something new, the .300 RCM is already a loser to the .300 WSM.

I'd much rather see a .300-375 Ruger, and .338-375 Ruger.

Did we need a new 30 cal I don't really think so but the 30 rcm does fill a gap by giving more velocity out of the 20 inch barrel it was designed for then the 300 wsm would.

I don't see the .30rcm lasting long in the saturated .30 market we have now.

That we can never have too many short, fat .30-cal. magnums?? Seems like.

I have no idea of the case capacities of the WSM vs the RCM. But if they are coparable, all the WSM needs to be competitive is a load using the same powder as the RCM....... I think the powder type is key here.

It sounds like a fairly decent cartridge. But the factory loadings are with special powder if i remember right. According to loaddata.com the 300 RCM loaded with standard powders, like IMR 4350 or H4350 and out of a 24" barrel doesnt get much better velocities than a 30-06. Who knows when that special powder will released as a reloading component. A 30-06 will do anything and everything that a 300 RCM will do.
