Default 7X57 Shooters?

Anybody else here use a 7X57 to deer hunt with? Ive got a Ruger M77 chambered in it and been using it about 4 years now and have had great success with it. It always knocks them down in a hurry. Shot my largest buck to date this year with it.

I used to have a Ruger m77 in 7x57 and really liked it. Had to sell it years ago when going through divorce and still miss the rifle-not the EX. Since then I've got 7mm08, .280, and .284. Never have ran across 7x57 another for a good (low) price YET.

It is an awesome caliber, If you have one of the 77's with open sights and a tang safety, sweet..

Many years ago i had a Ruger 77 chambered in 7x57, and idid put quite a bit of meat in my freezer with it, includeingbig caribou... I really liked the old 175 grain Speer mag tip bullet handloaded in it... It worked very good on caribou...

One day i saw a coyote about 150 yards away. I pulled up and shot itthrough the ribs with the 7x57... Thatcoyotejumped AT LEAST 6 feet straight up in the air, landing dead as a door nail. The snow was waist deep, and a real bitc_ to go get him, but when i got there the tracks showed he never moved, and was shot right through the ribs.

About 15 years ago I picked upa model 70 Win lightweight in 7x57 for the wife to use for deer hunting. She loves this round and has killed several with it. She was using one of my Rems in 243 and didn't really like it that well. Since I reload I can get some pretty good velocity out of the7x57, just a touch slower than the 270 win. Zeak

A Ruger M-77 in 7x57 was my first big game gun.Bought it about 30yrs ago and I still have and love it.There are some notable's who feel the same way about this old cartridge.Jack O'Conor said he'd probably seen more game killed with fewer shots with it than any other cartridge attributing this to it's mild recoil. His wife Eleanor used it extensively both here and in Africa.W.M.Bell took 1011 elephants with it during his ivory days using Kynoch 173gr solids/head shots.Finn Aagaard favored it over all others except his pre 64 Win in .375 H&H but he also said that was only for sentimental reasons. His father used an older one exclusively to feed a coffee plantations workforce for years taking hundreds of African critters.I recently added a .280 to the family but havent tried it yet.On paper others may look better but going by actual field use results opposed to theory you just cant beat it.

My first 7X57mm was a Ruger 77. My son "borrowed it" in 1980, and still has it. I currently have three other 7X57s , a Mannlicher Schoenauer carbine, a Venezuelan M1924 FN Mauser, and a Ruger 1A. This roundis my primary cartridge of choice these days, and the 7X57 will handle anything in NA if you usse the right bullets. It really must be handlaoded for, to get the most out of it (unless you use European ammo!).
