Default .243 for Son

I plan to pick up a .243 for my son. I need something that will have a youth stock. I was looking in the Tikka, but noticed they do not carry youth models. I know the Remmington 700 and the Weatherby Vangaurd both come in youth models. I was thinking about the Weatherby as it comes with a full size stock, but the barrell will still only be 20", just like the Remmington. Any others I should look at and any opinions are welcomed.

For about 200.00 consider the NEF or Rossi Single Shot! They have great accuracy and the safety of having only one shot!
only one shot also teaches them to make that one shot count!

I'd look at the Browning A Bolt Micro Hunter. Either have the stock shortened or pick up an aftermarket stock for it.

I got a Savage youth model 11FYCAK for my grandson in 7-08. It has the youth stock, muzzlebrake, detatchable magazine and ismor accuratethan any other rifle in my gun safe. And Savage was giving you a coupon to purchase a full size stock at a later date.

I'd get the Remington, you can buy an after market stock later as he grows...

Nothing wrong with a 20 inch barrel, my brother's Model 7 has one and he love it...

I just bought my wife a Model 7 Remington Youth in .243 cal. I found it on the Guns America website and got it for $400. used. When I got it I was delighted to find that it was not only like new, but I don't believe it had ever been shot. A really sweet, lightweight gun. She's 2 for 2 on does already. It has a synthetic stock which is shortened 1 inch from the regular model and has a recoil pad.

I would definitely recommend that rifle.

I guess it would depend on how much money you would spend on a kids first gun. Mossberg makes the 100ATR in .243 "bantam" with a walnut stock that have a 12" L.O.P, or the "super bantam" that has a piece you can add to the synthetic stock at a later date to increase the L.O.P from 12-13". They are nice shooting guns that are inexpensive.

A good friend of mine just bought the Remington 243with the SS barrel, and the camo stock. The rifles also came with scopes. However I think the dealer put the scopes on the rifles. He has two young sons. You should have seen the look in those kid's eyes. The look was priceless.

With the prices of the cheaper synthetic stocks we just cut the one off for the younger boy. Now it fits him perfectly. He hated to cut that camo. But what the heck. In a couple of years we will find him a new stock.

Hunting with kids is priceless. Tom.
