The Browning A-5 is one of the best, if the THE best, semi-auto shotgun ever made to date. You've got a real prize there, as A-5's in good condition are very valuable, but being your grampa's gun I'd hope you'd never sell it. Take good care of it, it's a dandy.

My grandfather gave me his about a yearbefore he passed away. he still had the reciept, he paid $120 for it in 1950 somthing forget the date.

You can go to brownings websight and with the serial no you can find out where and whenit was made.

Browning web sight stinks for dating an A5. Post the serial number with any lettersand I think I can date your gun. The serial # is on the underside in front of the loading port.

The good ole browning A-5. I developed a fascination with the A5 since my I shot my grandfathers at a young age. A gun worth fighting for. An A-5 (promised to me by my grandmother after my grandfathers death)in my family has caused my brother and I to not talk for almost 6 years. Has caused turmoil between my uncle and I.

Oh yes, it takes a special gun to cause so much ruckus in a family.

You wouldn't see this turmoil with an 1187 I guarantee you that.

By the way, I have let the issue go with my brother and uncle. Well, kinda.
