so I was doing some thinking and I have decided I want to buy a H&R/NEF SyntheticHandi Riflea .243 or a .270 so If you have owned or even used one any input on it would be great. Does it feel small since it's only 38 in.?, is it a quality rifle or does it look cheap? etc.
(it'll be used for deer hunting and I have only heard good things about it so I want to try it out.)
I have had mine for appx 10 years, .223 with laminated stock. I love it. It shoots well, is very manuverable, steady. You should do well with it. My only concern is that I wished the barrel was longer, but I haven't noticed a big negative with it and have hit coyotes out at 200 yards.Good luck, happy hunting.
i also have one that i use when moving allot in upstate ny woods.its small and very easy to get around with.its built solid,and shoots as well as some of my more expensive guns.mine is not laminate ,and is chambered in 308.great little rifle
I have a couple...and they're fine guns. With a little tinkering they can shoot very good groups.
Here's what I did to my Handi-Rifles to make them shoot better.
1. Send it back and have the trigger lightened. When I did it, it was a fast process and the trigger went from awful to pretty darn good.
2. Remove the forearm. Put a rubber o-ring between the forearm and the barrel where the bolt goes through. This takes some of the pressure off the barrel and "floats" the barrel a little.
I'm not sure how it works with sending the gun back now that Marlin owns H&R...but I'm sure you can find out.
After those 2 steps, mine were pretty much tackdrivers...especially my .223. With Black Hills V-Max bullets, my 223 will cloverleaf groups at 100yds.
