I hear alot of good things about the H&R single shots. They're priced reasonably.

Go to this page and scroll down to the 2nd and 3rd rifles. They are both offered in 30-06. There may be others.

I don't really get why you'd want to buy a single shot rifle. I don't want a single shot anything unless it's a black powder gun but even then I'd prefer it to be more than a single shot. It just can't be unless it's a double barrel. There are soo many great bolt action and semi auto 30-06's out there that you could get more than one shot I don't get why you'd buy a single shot.

As for other single shots, there is always the Ruger #1. Not cheap but a very nice rifle.

Here in Louisiana and Mississippi we're allowed to shoot single shots patented before 1900 during our new "primitive weapons" season. I think Mississippi requires minimum .35 cal while Louisiana's is .38 cal. With this in mind you can get a 45-70 or 444 Marlin or 38-55 or something like that as long as it's a pre-1900 patented single-shot breech loading rifle.
