Default Question on a youth rifle

How old is she champ? Can she phyically hold up a bolt action? I would by all means reccomend a .243 over the .223 for a beginner deer hunting. The .223 will kill a deer but it requires EXACT shot placement. Not saying of course that with a larger caliber rifle she can get "sloppy"-just to me starting a child out with a .223 for deer is like starting them out with a .410instead of a 20 gauge forsmall game. I started my kids.grandkids, and others out on a 7mm08. The H&R will provide good service, along with the marlin XL7,the stevens 200,and a couple more. Just PLEASE stay away from the cheap (junk) remington 710/770 series.

she will be 9 this comming summer...im sure sh can hold one up but all of my rifles are a little big for her...stock wise...a 243 wouldnt bother me at all really jsut looking for something small and reasonably priced...just dont want to get a lever gun for her...would rather have a bolt if i could get one..just looking for some ideas right now still got a while but want to get her shooting a lot...shes a new shooter and im planning on taking her squrill hunting this year to let her get used to it and go to the range as much as we can

What you can do is get something like I reccomended and cut the stock down and put a smaller recoil pad on that'll fit, while making SURE she retains enough eye relief on scope. Then when she gets bigger, just order a new stock.

Check out a Weatherby Vanguard Youth/Compact in 7mm/08. It should fit her nicely and the recoil is minimal.
