I was thinking about one of these in 243 or 260 rem .wondering what recoil would be like in the 260 and if the 16 inch barrel wouldhurt it much.the rifle would be mostly for my 10 year old.Any one have this combo

The recoil won't be bad at all,very good choice. It will kick slightly less than the lightweight 7mm08 I taught my kids,grandkids,and other shooters out on.

I boughta Compact in 223 a few years ago.
IMO, for a youngster the stock is just about perfect, for an adult the length of pull is way to short for an average size man. The Compact is not a super light weight rifle so recoil will not be too bad in either a 243 or 260. However, I dont like the muzzleblast from the really short barrel and now it sits in the gun cabinet. I'll probably trade it in the future.

I've liked the remington model 7s ever since they came out,great lil rifles. Another idea is the micro medallion/hunter or the savage 10/11 youth short action.
